Managing Contacts: Allowlist & Blocklist

Wiley gives you full control over who can call your child's phone and who your child can call. This is done through two simple lists: the Allowlist (approved contacts) and the Blocklist (blocked callers).

Currently if you toggle Call Filter Mode on/off you will see two different lists.

Quick Summary

  • Allowlist = people who CAN call and be called. Think of it as your child's phone book.
  • Blocklist = numbers that are blocked from calling the phone.
  • By default, the phone only allows calls from contacts on the allowlist.
  • You manage both lists from the Contacts page in the parent portal.

Adding a Contact to the Allowlist

  1. Go to the Contacts page in the parent portal.
  2. Click Add Contact.
  3. Enter the contact's name and phone number.
  4. The contact is automatically added to the allowlist.

Your child can now call this person using the phone, and this person can call your child.

Speed Dial

When you add a contact, you can optionally assign them to a speed dial key (0–9). Your child can then call them by pressing and holding that number on the phone keypad.

Blocking a Number

If you want to prevent a specific number from reaching the phone:

  1. Go to the Contacts page.
  2. Find the contact or add a new one.
  3. Toggle the contact to the Blocklist.

Blocked numbers will hear a busy signal when they try to call. They cannot leave voicemail.

How It Works Behind the Scenes

  • Wiley uses call screening to check incoming calls against your allowlist. If a caller's number isn't on the list, the call is rejected automatically.
  • Outgoing calls are also restricted — the phone can only dial numbers that are in the contacts list.
  • This creates a safe, controlled calling environment for your child.

Tips

  • Add emergency contacts like grandparents, aunts/uncles, and close family friends.
  • Review your lists regularly — as your child grows, you may want to add or remove contacts.
  • Use speed dial for the most frequently called numbers so your child can reach them quickly.
  • Keep 911 in mind — 911 is always accessible regardless of your contact settings. You never need to add it to the allowlist.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Can my child call 911 even if it's not on the allowlist? Yes. 911 always works, no matter what your contact settings are. This is required by law and cannot be disabled.

Q: What happens if an unknown number calls? The call is automatically rejected. The caller hears a busy tone and cannot leave a voicemail.

Q: How many contacts can I add? There is no hard limit on the number of contacts. Add as many as you need.
