- Sign up at the Wiley parent portal using the MAC address (found on the bottom of the device)
- Complete setup — enter your address, WiFi info, and payment details.
- Plug in the phone to power & ethernet to your home internet router and wait 3–5 minutes for it to configure itself.
- Start calling!
What's in the Box
- Wiley phone (Wiley Buddy Black or Wiley Buddy White)
- Power adapter
- Ethernet cable (for initial setup if needed)
- Quick start card with your MAC address
Step 1: Find Your MAC Address
The MAC address is a unique identifier for your phone. You'll need it during signup.
Where to find it:
- On the bottom label of your phone — it looks like
C0:74:AD:xx:xx:xx - On the original box the phone came in
Tip: Take a photo of the label before you plug the phone in. It's easier to read without flipping it over later.
Step 2: Create Your Account
- Go to the Wiley parent portal.
- Enter the MAC address from your phone.
- Choose your plan (Monthly at $9.95/month or Yearly at $99/year).
- Enter your payment information.
- Provide your home address (required for 911 service).
- Enter your home WiFi network name and password.
Step 3: WiFi Connection
During setup, you'll enter:
- WiFi Network Name (SSID) — the exact name of your home WiFi network (case-sensitive!)
- WiFi Password — the same password you use for other devices
- Security Type — choose WPA2 unless you know otherwise (it works with 99% of home routers)
Pro Tip: For the easiest experience, some Wiley customers set their router to a temporary "Setup Network" (SSID:
wp_master, Password:wp!987@dmin). Your phone is pre-configured to find this network immediately to download its first set of instructions. Not sure about your WiFi details? Check the sticker on your router, or see our WiFi Setup & Security article.
Step 4: Plug In Your Phone
- Connect the power adapter to your phone and plug it into a wall outlet.
- Wait 3–5 minutes. The phone will automatically connect to WiFi and download its configuration.
- You'll see the phone's light flash red & green. After it's done flashing and no lights are flashing it's connected!
If the phone doesn't connect after 5 minutes:
- Double-check your WiFi name, password, and security type in your Wiley dashboard under Settings.
- Try connecting the phone to your router with the included ethernet cable temporarily — it will download the WiFi settings and then you can go wireless.
Step 5: Make Your First Call
- Pick up the handset (or press the speaker button).
- Dial a number.
Step 6: Hanging Up A Phone Call
You hang up a call the same way you would other home phones.
If you're on the handset just place the handset back on the cradle (on-hook) — that ends the call.
If you're on speakerphone press the speaker button again to release the line.
Sometimes when you hang up a call and the other person doesn't hang up just pick up the handset and hang it back on the cradle one more time and it will end the call.
What's Next?
- Set up your contacts — control who your child can call and receive calls from.
- Configure quiet hours — set times when the phone won't ring.
- Set up speed dial — assign family members to quick-dial keys.
- Customize voicemail — record a greeting and learn how to check messages.
